For Schools: Information Post-Earthquakes

We are currently taking the Rutherford story out into schools!

Introduce your class to the Kiwi genius and discover how this fascinating New Zealander became known as the father of Nuclear Science.  Supported by the Ministry of Education's Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) programme, our Outreach visits are free, they support the Key Competencies and have curriculum links in science, social science and technology.

Ernest Rutherford is the supreme case-study in enterprise and achievement - success through perseverance and hard work. The proven, highly engaging activities that our programmes offer, allow students to experience first hand the inspiring journey taken by Rutherford.  From a modest yet colourful New Zealand childhood to the world stage of science in the early twentieth century, he applied his intellect and experimental ingenuity to unravel the mystery and explain the fundamental nature of matter.

A wealth of valuable learning opportunities awaits as we bring you some original exhibits for hands-on learning.  Programmes in social science, physical science and technology are specifically designed to link with level and content across the curriculum and can be tailored to meet the needs of teachers and their students’ learning intentions. Outreach visits by Rutherford’s Den Educators are supported by the Ministry of Education through its LEOTC initiative and are provided as a free service. All sessions are facilitated by qualified and experienced teaching staff.
